Greek Pastries for the Holidays

During the holiday season, Harriet Argue pulls out all the baking stops to make traditional favorites. Greek desserts have a unique combination of flavors that make them different from typical pastries, and each is amazingly delicious. Harriet will demonstrate four of these childhood favorites you’ll want to add to your holiday sweet list. We’re all familiar with Baklava, but Harriet will kick it up making a Chocolate version of this crispy, nutty, syrupy delight. Kourabiedes are a buttery, shortbread-type cookie, covered in powdered sugar. Ekmek Kataifi is one of the most popular Greek desserts filled with creamy Custard Crème, and when baked looks like shredded wheat. And we'll finish with Amygdalota, a crunchy and chewy Greek almond cookie. Light snacks will be served.

Girls' Night Out Holiday Bash

Over the Top: A Champagne and Food Celebration

It’s the celebratory time of year when our thoughts turn to ringing in the New Year in style and there’s only one drink worthy of the toast—Champagne. What could be better for feasting and merrymaking than the wine of the season? Join Chef Carrie and wine educator George Punter for a fun evening as they pull out all the stops with Champagne and food pairings. We’ll start the evening with an amuse-bouche of Truffle Popcorn Caviar paired with our first effervescent sip, and move on to this sensational menu: Oysters on the Half Shell With Sauce Mignonette, Cha Gio (Vietnamese Fried Crab and Pork Spring Rolls), Lobster Risotto, and Miso Glazed Salmon.

Let's Do Lunch! Holiday Party

Take a break from busy holiday activities and join us for lunch. Chef Carrie will give you great ideas for a make-ahead entrée and teach you how to put together a stress-free dessert. You’ll enjoy a three-course meal while we demonstrate the recipes. We’ll do our best to get you out in an hour and you’ll take home the recipes. Coffee and water will be included. We’ll have a perfectly paired wine available for purchase by the glass or bottle. Apple and Serrano Salad, Mushroom and Leek Lasagna, and Sgroppino (a Lemony Boozy Dessert).

Homemade Spaghetti With Three Classic Sauces

Hands-On Class

Pasta should be worthy of its sauce and vice-versa, so we're making Homemade Fresh Spaghetti for three delicious sauces. Mary Cooney will guide you through making fresh pasta dough for spaghetti. The three sauces don't require a lot of ingredients, but you'll discover how using high-quality ingredients and certain cooking techniques result in incredible dishes. Cacio e Pepe means 'cheese and pepper', and when perfectly executed is mouthwateringly good. Amatriciana is a classic Italian favorite with a rich tomato sauce made with smoky guanciale, a hint of chili (flakes), and freshly grated Pecorino Romano. Al Limone is luscious and generously cheesy, but the brightness of fresh lemon juice and zest makes this dish light and fresh.

Decorating a Gingerbread House during the holiday season is a traditional family pastime. What child (ages 1-92) hasn't dreamed of decorating a gingerbread house this festive time of year? You'll be welcomed with the smell of gingerbread, the Culinary Center elves, and Zebbie Borland for a fun and creative evening learning the step-by-step process for decorating your very own gingerbread house. All icings and candies for decoration will be provided, but feel free to bring some of your own to personalize your house. This is a great activity for parents and children to do together. Price includes one house. We are offering 2 classes this year.
