Introduction to Pastry and Baking

Come meet our new chef instructor, Katherine Ballein. If you've ever been curious about the science behind common baking ingredients and how each one has its own important function, this is the class for you. Katherine has extensive experience in pastry arts as she was the pastry chef and general manager of an artisan European-style bakery in Montana. She also produced all of the wedding cakes and taught classes as well. One of her favorite classes to teach was Introduction to Pastry where she taught ingredient functions and baking science. Katherine loves all things food and we are very excited to have her as part of our team! Light snacks and wine will be served along with Katherine's baked goods.

About Katherine Ballein

Katherine, a native of Helena, Montana, attended culinary school in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has extensive culinary experience as chef and pastry chef in catering, pastry, and bread. Katherine's most recent culinary experience was developing menus for Wright-Patterson AFB. She enjoys sharing her love of food with others and is excited to join the culinary team at the Dorothy Lane Culinary Center. Katherine lives in Oakwood with her her husband, Colin, and her cat, Bean.
