Sweet Hot Green Beans

  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed
  • 2 Tbsp Vera Jane's Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (or more to taste)


Begin by blanching the beans. Boil 2 to 3 cups of water plus 1 teaspoon salt. Cook beans no more than 2 to 3 minutes, then scoop out and immediately place in an ice bath to shock. Drain beans
Heat oil in a large sauté pan. Add the garlic and sauté for a brief minute or two. Add the red chili flakes and stir.
Add the blanched, well-drained green beans and toss over medium-high heat. Add the sugar and taste to adjust the seasoning. Add the salt and pepper to taste.
