Matured a minimum of 12 months in England for a bold, sharp flavor with a satisfying crumble.
Sealed in bright green wax, this little tree is a centerpiece for any holiday cheese board.
A charming hostess gift, stocking stuffer, or add-on to any holiday gift box.
Some holiday traditions are worth repeating, and a good English Cheddar on the Christmas table is one of them. This year, it arrives dressed for the occasion.
Somerdale Vintage English Cheddar is aged a minimum of 12 months in the English tradition, developing the deep, sharp, slightly nutty flavor and firm, crumbly texture that Cheddar lovers seek out. Then it’s shaped into a Christmas tree and sealed in festive green wax, making it every bit as delightful to look at as it is to eat.
Set it at the center of your holiday cheese board, tuck it into a stocking, or bring it along as a hostess gift that will actually get used. Made with pasteurized cow’s milk and vegetarian rennet, it’s an easy choice for gatherings with mixed guest lists.
This item is perishable and should arrive within 2 days of shipment from our headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. Depending on where this item is headed, it may require expedited shipping.
Take the cheese out of the refrigerator 30 to 60 minutes before serving so the full flavor comes through. Using a sharp knife, score the wax around the tree and peel it away; the wax is not edible. Serve whole as a centerpiece, or slice into wedges or crumble into chunks. Vintage Cheddar pairs beautifully with crisp apples, ripe pears, fig jam or chutney, toasted nuts, oatcakes, and crusty bread. For drinks, try a tawny port, a full-bodied red, a hard cider, or an English-style ale.
Refrigerate upon arrival. Keep the cheese in its wax until you’re ready to serve, as the wax protects its flavor and moisture. Once cut, wrap leftovers in cheese paper or wax paper, then place loosely in a plastic bag or container and refrigerate. For the best flavor and texture, enjoy within 2 to 3 weeks of opening. If you’re giving it as a gift, let the recipient know to refrigerate it right away.
