Classic English Cheddar is blended with real Champagne for a creamy, gently fruity bite with a clean finish.
This festive Cheddar arrives only for the holiday season, so stock up while it lasts.
Pair it with a glass of bubbly for an effortless cheese board, hostess gift, or New Year’s Eve toast.
Some cheeses are made for every day. This one is made for the moments worth raising a glass to. Somerdale Champagne Cheddar starts with a smooth, pasteurized English cow’s milk Cheddar, then blends in real Champagne to create something truly celebratory: creamy and mellow, with a subtle fruitiness and a bright, clean finish that keeps you reaching for one more slice.
Somerdale International, based in Wellington, Somerset, has partnered with traditional, family-run British cheesemakers since 1990, and this festive Cheddar is one of its most anticipated seasonal releases. It arrives just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, and disappears soon after.
Our cheese team loves it as the conversation starter on a holiday cheese board, set next to crisp apples, honey, and a bottle of something sparkling. It’s also a thoughtful, unexpected gift for the cheese lover, the host who has everything, or the colleague you’d like to toast this year. Because it’s only here for the season, it’s the kind of cheese people remember and ask about by name.
This item is perishable and should arrive within 2 days of shipment from our headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. Depending on where this item is headed, it may require expedited shipping.
Take the Cheddar out of the refrigerator 30 to 60 minutes before serving so the texture softens and the Champagne notes come forward. The wax rind is not edible, so remove it before slicing or cubing.
For pairings, try sparkling wine, Champagne, Prosecco, or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, along with Granny Smith apples, Bosc pears, green grapes, fig jam, honeycomb, Marcona almonds and buttery crackers or a sliced baguette. It also melts beautifully into a celebratory fondue, a grilled cheese with pear, or warm cheddar gougères for holiday entertaining.
Keep refrigerated at 35 to 40°F. Once opened, wrap the cut surface in cheese paper or parchment, then place it loosely in a plastic bag or container so it can breathe without drying out. Enjoy within two to three weeks of opening for the best flavor and texture. Freezing isn’t recommended because it can make the texture crumbly.
