What began as a humble corner grocery and fruit stand has grown into one of the Midwest's most respected food destinations, known for extraordinary quality, genuine hospitality, and a deep passion for great food. Our Story
Our journey started with a simple mission when Calvin D. Mayne opened Dorothy Lane Market in 1948 as a humble fruit stand: make people happy with great food. Over the decades, that has guided every decision we make-from the farmers we partner with to the ingredients we choose and the service we provide. This was also anchored by the values of Calvin's wife Vera Jane Mayne, DLM president for many years, who instilled a culture of integrity with her words "always do the right thing."
Today, the Mayne family continues to locally own and operate DLM, with Calvin and Vera's son Norman and family continuing their legacy. Though we've grown, we remain proudly independent, rooted in our community, and committed to the values that shaped us from the beginning.

Our produce department is Certified Organic and features produce at its peak each season. We work closely with local growers and family orchards to bring in peak-season fruits and vegetables, alongside a curated selection of specialty items for passionate home cooks and food lovers.
We are committed to offering the highest-quality meats available that are lifetime-free of antibiotics, no added growth promotants, vegetarian fed, and humanely raised.
We are among the few grocers featuring air-chilled chicken for our DLM line from Bell & Evans.
Heritage pork from premium providers, such as duBreton pork, including for our line of DLM Uncured Bacon, and Kurobuta pork.
USDA Prime Steaks, featuring intrinsic marbling that melts into flavor when cooked. Plus, wagyu steaks and burgers!

Our seafood department is built on integrity and long-standing partnerships as we buy fresh seafood direct from fishermen and fishing co-ops, choosing to air-freight. These decisions combined serve to minimize time spent out of water, which brings fresher fish from the shores to our doors. We feel that this ensures the highest quality wild and farm-raised seafood, whether we are ordering sustainably raised farm-raised Wester Ross salmon or fresh wild catches from fishing families in Alaska's Copper River and the Columbia River in Oregon.
Our scratch bakery is one of our proudest traditions. We craft DLM Artisan Breads-including authentic baguettes, sourdough, and croissants-using classic techniques. Our European-style patisserie offers elegant pastries, and our Love Cakes by Dorothy Lane Market team creates beautiful custom cakes for every celebration.
