Travel the world, one cheese at a time. From the sheep’s milk Manchego of La Mancha to caramel-sweet aged Gouda from Holland and the Alpine richness of Swiss Gruyère, our cheesemongers select each imported cheese for its authentic flavor and heritage, then ship it fresh to your door.
Spain is one of the world’s great sheep’s milk cheese countries. Manchego, its most famous cheese, is protected by law and can only be made in the La Mancha region from the milk of Manchega sheep. Young Manchego is mild and buttery, while longer-aged wheels become firm, nutty, and complex. Look for Idiazabal from the Basque Country, a sheep’s milk cheese often lightly smoked; Mahón from the island of Menorca, a tangy cow’s milk cheese; and Cabrales, a bold blue from the mountains of Asturias. Serve Spanish cheese the traditional way with membrillo (quince paste), Marcona almonds, and a glass of Rioja or sherry.
Gouda takes its name from the Dutch town where it was traded for centuries. Young Gouda is mild, creamy, and easy to love, while aged Gouda transforms into something extraordinary: firm, deep amber, and full of crunchy crystals, with rich flavors of butterscotch and toasted nuts. Aged Gouda is wonderful on its own, with apples or pears, or with a dark beer.
Swiss Alpine cheeses are made from the milk of cows that graze mountain pastures, and they’re prized for both flavor and meltability. Gruyère is a protected cheese from western Switzerland with a firm texture and sweet, nutty, earthy flavor, and it’s the classic choice for fondue and French onion soup. Emmentaler is the original Swiss cheese with the famous holes, and Appenzeller is aromatic and full-flavored thanks to a herbal brine.
