INSTRUCTIONS
1
Stack the four slices of American Cheese. Cut in half, then cut each piece in half again to form four stacks of squares. Set aside.
2
Place the ground beef, salt, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper in a large bowl. Gently mix with your hands until just evenly combined. Divide the beef into eight portions (3-oz each) and form each into a ball.
3
Using your fingertips, press two portions into 1/4-inch thick patties that are about 1 inch wider in diameter than the buns. Top 1 patty with 4 pieces of cut cheese, overlapping the slices to cover the patty but leaving a 1/2-inch border. Place the second patty over the cheese-topped patty. Pinch the edges to form a tight seal and cup the stuffed patty with your hands to round the edges Press lightly on top to slightly flatten into a single thick patty and transfer to a plate. Repeat for remaining patties.
4
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large cast-iron skiller or frying pan over medium heat until shimmering, about 3 to 4 minutes. Cook undisturbed (do not press down on the patties) until dark golden-brown on the bottom, about four minutes. Flip the patties and cook until the other side is dark golden-brown and the patties are cooked through, about four minutes.
5
Place a patty on each bun, top with a few pickle slices, and close with the bun top.
