Heavenly Ham® and Asparagus Rolls
3 Tbsp butter
¼ cup flour
2 cup milk
½ lb (about 2 cups) shredded cheese like Swiss, Gruyère, or Cheddar
½ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano, grated
Salt and pepper to taste
1/8 tsp nutmeg
8 slices of Heavenly Ham®
24 spears of asparagus, steamed, grilled, or roasted
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Make the cheese sauce by melting the butter over medium-low heat in a small saucepan. Add the flour and make a roux. Slowly add the milk whisking until cooked and thickened. Remove from heat and add both of the cheeses, whisking until melted. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Butter a 9×13 pan and for each slice of ham roll up 3 asparagus spears. Place seam side down in pan. Pour cheese sauce over rolls and bake until sauce is bubbly and golden brown in spots. Sprinkle top with paprika if desired.
