Fifty years ago I met my best friend Dan. He was on one bank of the creek catching crawdads and I was on the other. Maybe that is why I immediately bonded with brothers John and Brendan Ready. These two guys fell in love with lobstering at ages seven and eight watching their local heroes, the lobstermen of Cape Elizabeth. Starting with a rowboat and a few traps, they took their childhood obsession and grew it into a thriving business that put them through college. At their father’s insistence, they graduated before becoming Lobstermen fulltime! Their companies, Ready Seafood and Catch a Piece of Maine, sell sustainably-caught lobster that can be traced back to the boat and the local lobsterman who caught them. When not lobstering, the Ready brothers do their second favorite thing: educating and sharing with others their passion for lobster and the work lobstermen have done to make it a sustainable industry.
