Potatoes Scalloped with Gruyère Cheese
Wonderful flavor and aroma!
|2 lbs red potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced|
|Salt and freshly ground pepper|
|1/4 cup butter|
|1½ cups grated Gruyère cheese|
|1/4 cup dry bread crumbs|
|1½ cups beef broth|
Preheat oven to 400°F. Place half of the sliced potatoes in a greased shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; dot with butter. Sprinkle with half of the cheese. Repeat layers, reserving a tablespoon of butter. Sprinkle bread crumbs over the cheese and dot with reserved butter.
Pour beef broth into the dish without moistening the bread crumbs. Bake at 400°F for 1 hour or until the potatoes are tender and the topping is crusty and golden.Makes 6 servings
