Sweet Kraut for Brats

Thanks to Susan Haller, a former DLM Home Economist, for this favorite recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb shredded sauerkraut
  • 1 Granny Smith apple with skin, diced
  • 1/4 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

Directions:

Partially drain kraut. Add to heavy saucepan with apple, onion and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat until apple is quite tender, stirring occasionally. If kraut starts to dry out, lower heat and cover. Kraut is done when all liquid has evaporated. Serve hot with brats.

Makes (10) 1/4 cup servings
