Norwegian Kringle

Ingredients:
- First Layer
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup flour
- 1-4 Tbsp ice water
Second Layer
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp almond extract
Icing
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1 Tbsp melted butter
- 1 Tbsp warm water
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
Directions:
First Layer: Using a pastry blender, cut butter into flour.
Add only enough water to combine ingredients. Pat the mixture into a 10x13-inch
jelly roll pan.
Second Layer: In a saucepan, combine water and butter and
bring to a boil. Stir in flour and cook for one minute. Remove from heat and
cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, put in flour mixture and add eggs one
at a time, beating well after each addition. Add almond extract. Spread mixture
on top of first layer. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 45 minutes. Ice while warm.
Icing: Combine confectioners sugar with butter, water and
almond extract. Beat until smooth and spread on warm Kringles. Top with almonds.
