Wonderful flavor and aroma.
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs. red potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- Salt
- Freshly ground pepper
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1.5 cups (6 oz.) grated Gruyère Cheese
(Either Natural Gruyère or Processed Gruyère cheese may be used. Natural
Gruyère results in a richer dish.)
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1.5 cups beef broth
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place half of the sliced potatoes in a greased
shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; dot with butter. Sprinkle
with half of the cheese. Repeat layers, reserving a tablespoon of butter.
Sprinkle bread crumbs over the cheese and dot with reserved butter.
Pour beef broth into the dish without moistening the bread crumbs. Bake at
400 degrees F for 1 hour or until the potatoes are tender and the topping
is crusty and golden.
