RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Mac 'n Cheese Soup Gluten Free
This is the ultimate comfort food: mac and cheese combined with soup. Resist the temptation to not add the nutmeg and cayenne; although amounts are small, they support flavor and add richness to the soup. Don’t skip the blue cheese either. Read the featured items below.

MEETING THIS SATURDAY!
Our next meeting is this Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Conference Room upstairs at the Washington Square location. The topic is ‘Staying Gluten Free Starts in Your Kitchen’. We will combine a PowerPoint presentation with discussion and question and answers. A registered sanitarian from Montgomery County Public Health Department has been invited to attend. Our focus is contact and cross-contamination in the home and how to keep your family safe.

Susan Duve, the owner and creative force of Royal Fireworks Sauces from Columbus, Ohio, will bring munchies - meatballs and hot chip dip - to the meeting for you to sample. Royal Fireworks Sauces are all natural and made from Ohio ingredients. Susan started out studying nutrition as a science, however her love of food won out and the rest is Fireworks!

FEATURED ITEMS
Ancient Harvest Organic Quinoa Pasta
Ancient Harvest Organic Quinoa Pasta is blend of quinoa and corn. Quinoa is Incan for “mother grain.” Each serving is packed with 4 grams of protein and fiber; which is twice the amount of fiber found in most brown rice pastas. Like all gluten-free pastas, this product should be gently boiled, stirred frequently and never overcooked. Your water will turn yellow from the corn; this is natural.

Maytag Blue
Yes, this cheese is connected to the famed Maytag appliance company. Fred Maytag, grandson of the founder of the Maytag appliance company, started making blue cheese in 1941 with milk from his father's herd of Holstein cattle. Milk now comes from a dairy cooperative, but the cheese at Maytag Dairy is still made in small batches by hand.
