After the long, hard winter of 2014, we all took the time to drink in all of the sunshine that we could this summer, enjoying all of the fresh local corn, tomatoes, and watermelon we could eat. For me, I have been in denial that fall would eventually be upon us, refusing to even think about a chill in the air. Like the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end,” and here we are attending football games in hoodies. At least we have consolations in that the cold nip in the air brings on the best season (in my opinion) for items offered from our Bakery.
It is a slow and steady roll out of delicious goodies beginning in September when we begin making our pillowy-soft Caramel Iced Pumpkin Cookies. Cheryl, who works in our Accounting department, always receives the very first one to check for quality (it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it)! Shortly thereafter, comes our wildly popular Pumpkin Spiced Bread with Cinnamon Streusel; great at room temperature, but even better warmed in a toaster oven with Vermont Creamery Sea Salt Butter on top. I dare you to only eat one piece! Next comes our Pumpkin Cheese Roll, a perfectly spiced, light cake rolled with sweet cream cheese frosting and drizzled with caramel. We even have pumpkin muffins and Pumpkin Cream Cheese Crunch Crumb Cake — something for everyone! The biggest and most anticipated of them all is our Grandma Tobias Pumpkin Pie. Coincidentally, it’s literally made the exact same way as my family recipe. We make the all-butter crust from scratch, and fill each one by hand. They are carefully baked until the crust is a golden color and the aroma begs for you to cut into one while it is still warm.
If you prefer to “drink” your pumpkin, the DLM Coffee Bar has the perfect solution: Pumpkin Spice Latte. Our talented baristas craft the most amazing hot or iced treats topped with housemade whipped cream and caramel drizzle. We offer a small selection of treats to complete your latte right at The DLM Coffee Bar, including biscotti, chocolate-covered grahams, and shortbread cookies. My favorite right now is the Ginger Molasses Biscotti- perfect for a quick afternoon boost.
Now that I am really starting to think about it, I am no longer in denial about fall being here- I am going to enjoy the cool weather and the treats from our Bakery around a fire, and hope for a smooth winter! I hope that you stop in and pick up some of our seasonal favs; just like autumn, they aren’t around for long.
