Take Your Daily Squash
On: September 29, 2014
Our Produce departments are buzzing these days as well, with local squash, pumpkins, apples, etc mounded up in a collage of health-giving colors. We don’t buy from local farmers just because it’s the trendy thing to do these days. We’ve been sourcing great local produce from our very start in 1948.
My grandfather would buy the most beautiful pumpkin decades ago from the Stoltz family out of New Carlisle. And we still buy from the Stoltz’s! Our great friend Jon Branstrator from Clarksville also supplies us with clean, plump pumpkins and gorgeous squash. Local farmer Harvey Eicher always brings in beautiful fall vegetables and apples. Speaking of local apples, the Eshleman family are bringing in abundance of varieties!
Squash and pumpkins are not only tasty, but full of nutrients such as beta-carotene, and apples are another category of nature’s superfoods this time of year. A daily “dose” of such goodness helps keep you feeling good. Just talking about this makes me hungry…and makes me feel healthy. Now is a good time to hunker down and eat good, healthy food with your friends and loved ones. We love helping you accomplish just that.
