Recipe of the Week: Strawberry Caprese Pasta Salad

Fresh strawberries and basil make a pretty combination that tastes great in this variation of a traditional mozzarella and tomato salad. Traditional Caprese (salad from the island of Capri) is a simple dish from Italy’s Campania region.

Food For All
DLM is launching a summer campaign to fight hunger right here in the Miami Valley by launching a point-of-purchase fundraiser. Customers can get involved simply by selecting a $1, $3, or $5 donation coupon at the register, handing it to the cashier, and having it scanned. The amount will appear on the final bill and the donations stay right here in our community. This is such a simple way to get involved in the fight against hunger, and together we can make a huge impact in this important cause.

Great Ohio White Wine Back in Stock from Kinkead Ridge Winery
We’ve long been fans of Ron Barrett and Nancy Bentley and the wonderful wines they produce at their winery, Kinkead Ridge, in Ripley, Ohio, which is a part of the Ohio River Valley Appellation. The three new releases from the winery are the White Revelation, Viognier/Roussanne, and Riesling.

Kinkead Ridge 2008 White Revelation
With its amazingly pretty floral aromas, this dry blend of predominately Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, with a small amount of Chardonnay, shows lots of citrus zest and a bracing acidity, making it the perfect wine with a light meal on the patio. $14

Kinkead Ridge 2008 Viognier/Roussanne
A really good, rich blend of these two Rhône varietals that would be very good coming from France, and is exceptional as it comes from our own backyard! Pair with light fish, shellfish, or chicken. $16

Kinkead Ridge 2008 Riesling
Hand-harvested grapes give a lot of honeysuckle, banana, and peach notes, with a flinty finish. Great served with cold meats, fresh salads, light cheeses, and Asian cuisine. $12

New Harvest
Our friend, Spaniard and Dayton resident Juan Palomar, produces a lovely extra-virgin olive oil from the sizzling hot south of Spain. His oil, known as Veleta (Spanish for "weathervane") is a long time favorite of ours for everyday use in the kitchen. Juan produces it entirely from trees of the "Lechin" variety on his estate near Almería, Spain. His new harvest oil has the rounded flavor we love, with hints of almond and pepper. We like it for many uses, including grilling fish and even frying eggs in the morning. Buy a bottle of Veleta New Harvest, use it liberally, enjoy the health benefits and great flavor of this fresh olive oil, and support a local friend! 500ml • $9.99 • save $2.00 with Club DLM card through Tuesday, June 23.
