Pets & People Dog Treats
Pets & People started as a cottage industry to provide meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities. The work group mixes the dough, cuts each treat by hand, bakes, and packages each bag with care. DLM was the first grocery store to carry their treats, which are now sold in Kentucky and Indiana as well. Now you can feel good about giving Fido that extra treat, as you will be helping the Montgomery County Board of MRDD provide more jobs!

Sorry Charlie, We are Switching Tuna!

In our pursuit for the highest quality of food, we have found a tuna that we are very excited about! The quality far exceeds both the albacore and the “light” tuna we have been using in our kitchens. Our new tuna has only three ingredients – tuna, water, and salt. It is carefully hand- packed and represents only 4% of all tuna fished in the world today. Because of its smaller size and weight, it has only a trace amount of mercury, which is a big concern today. This tuna has been certified “Dolphin Safe”. But the best part is the taste! Come by and get a sample of our new and improved tuna salads. You’ll find them in our Delis, Gourmet Take-Away cases, and our freshly made sandwiches. You won't be sorry!

New! Icelandic Skyr
Are you trying to lose weight before summer hits (who isn’t it)? Our fitness buffs who work at DLM are raving about a new cheese we have imported from Iceland. Skyr is technically a cheese, but looks and tastes more like a yogurt. It is fat free, rich in protein (16-22 grams), calcium, vitamins, and is low in calories. This makes it perfect for breakfast, lunch, or after that strenuous workout! 6 oz • $2.59 • save 40¢ through May 31 with Club DLM card.

New! DLM Stracciatella Chocolate Chip Gelato
Stracciatella loosely translates as “shred”, and in this case refers to the little shreds of chocolate mixed throughout the gelato. Whenever we travel to Italy, a scoop of stracciatella from the local gelato shop is always on the agenda! The beautiful flavor is achieved with real vanilla, Belgian chocolate, and a traditional gelato base from Italy.

At our School of Cooking

Elements of Flavor

Chef Jeff Blumer is often asked what style of cuisine that he specializes in at Bellyfire. His answer is “Flavor.” Often when creating menus for large groups it is tempting to shy away from the true flavors that make a dish great. Understanding the elements of flavor and exploring them in the foods we love will make us better cooks and eaters. From the basics of sweet, salty, bitter, and sour, to umami, spicy, and cool, we will explore how these elements make some of our favorites great and how we can combine these to create amazing flavor: Classic Pad Thai; Risotto with Peas, Basil, and Mint; Shiitake Mushroom Chicken with Shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano; Aloo Samosas with Cilantro Sauce; Sweet and Sour Stir-fry; Salt-Baked Snapper; and Mascarpone Cream with Aged Vinegar-Marinated Strawberries.
Tuesday, May 26 • 6–9 p.m.
