Piñata Apples – A Surprise for your Taste Buds
Piñata apples were developed in Europe in the 1970s by cross-breeding the Golden Delicious, Orange Pippin, and Duchess of Oldenburg varieties. Stemilt Growers, a leading fruit company in Wenatchee, Washington, holds the exclusive rights to this variety. Piñata Apples are stripy red over an orange background. A blend of high sugar and high acid levels gives the apples their special flavor, with a unique tropical twist. Excellent for eating out-of-hand and great for both baking and poaching. Limited availability. $1.79 lb • save 50¢ lb with Club DLM card through Sunday, January 25.

New! Zingerman’s Zzang! Bars
Made by hand at Zingerman’s Bakehouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan, our friend Charlie Frank uses the best ingredients you can pronounce. The Original starts with a honey nougat made with natural peanut butter rolled up in caramel made from muscovado brown sugar. The biggest and best peanuts they can find come next, and the whole endeavor’s finished off with a hand dip into a rich bath of 64% dark Ecuadorian chocolate. Or try the What the Fudge? Bar, made with creamy layers of chocolate fudge, muscovado brown sugar caramel, and malted milk cream, all stacked up and dipped in chocolate. My favorite is the Ca$hew Cow! made with homemade cashew brittle (cashews, sugar, fresh butter, and real vanilla) with crisped rice and butter-roasted cashews. It’s all dipped in very dark chocolate from Ecuador. Crispy, sweet, nutty, and delicious.

Cherry Yogurt Almond Cake
Be the first to try this scrumptious new coffee cake from our Bakery department. Created by one of our bakers, Betty Ganota, we begin with our moist yogurt cake, then add sweet/tart cherries and slivered almonds, then top it with a cooked butter icing. Great for that cold morning with a cup of tea or coffee!

Crêpes Savory and Sweet
The focus of this class is making crêpes – with lots of hands-on practice while whipping up an array of fillings. With a basic batter versatile enough for both savory and sweet crêpes, Jack Zindorf will show you the technique of making crêpes that turn out perfectly every time. Crêpes will be stuffed with a breakfast filling of eggs and cheese topped with crème fraîche and fresh chives; savory herbed cream cheese and smoked salmon, perfect for a first course; and a rich seafood filling of shrimp, scallops, and crabmeat. Last but not least, our dessert crêpe simply oozes with Jack’s special pastry cream and is topped with balsamic-drizzled strawberries. Tuesday, January 27 • 6 – 9 p.m. • $60.00

Products Recalled

Several Meal Replacement Bars Recalled
Abbott Nutrition and Clif Bar & Company issued a voluntary recall on ZonePerfect Chocolate Peanut Bars and all Clif and Luna Bars containing peanut butter. The FDA has indicated that the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) is under investigation in the salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter. PCA is one of several suppliers of peanut butter for these bars. The companies have not received any consumer illness complaints. Please return your peanut butter bars to DLM for a full refund. Be sure to tell family and friends about the recall. We have already phoned or sent letters to customers who purchased the bars using their Club DLM card.
