We were swooning this morning over French toast! For the Easter holiday, we bring back in Loison Panettone, the Italian sweet bread that is scrumptious on its own but decadently delicious served this way for a special holiday breakfast. This traditional panettone comes from an artisan baking company in northern Italy and is light, buttery, and filled with delicious candied fruits. Not only are they tasty, but they come packaged in beautiful wrapping and bows. If you aren’t hosting an Easter breakfast or brunch, this would make a great hostess gift.
If you love French toast and never tried to make it with this imported delicacy, now is your chance! Slice one into 1-inch thick slabs, dunk into egg batter, and toast in a little butter over medium heat. The batter is pretty much the same as regular French toast with the added orange zest and a little juice to help ramp up the flavor of the candied citrus that is already baked inside the bread. Although you could serve it with the standard maple syrup option, this one is really good with just a dusting of powdered sugar. Or be different and try it dolloped with a little mascarpone cheese. Set up a little mimosa bar with DLM Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice and Champagne, heat up a quiche from the Deli, and enjoy a delicious spring brunch.
