Biscuit Envy

When travelling for both work and pleasure, it’s my mission to eat local as much as I can. I love to research all the spots where locals hang out, and more specifically where and what they eat. So naturally, when I was in Atlanta for a gift show I ate my share of delicious Southern food like pimento cheese, grits, collard greens, and fried chicken. My favorite food find this trip was discovered while researching where to go for a quick breakfast.  A new place recently opened their second location in Atlanta (first one is in Charleston) and we already carried their products in our Frozen department! So I dragged Peggy, DLM Culinary Center manager and fellow buyer , with me  to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit!

Callies’ Hot Little Biscuit is a bright and sunny spot located in the Virginia-Highlands neighborhood. Those biscuits were so darn good! Warm, buttery, and just hands down delicious, Peggy and I had a hard time picking which ones we should eat.  As soon as I got back to dreary Dayton, I grabbed a couple boxes and baked up a bunch that made several DLM folks very happy. Check them out in our freezer next time you are shopping and bake them up at your house for a southern treat!

We’ve been carrying Callie’s Buttermilk, Cheddar and Chive, and Cinnamon biscuits, plus her wicked good  “cookie” which is a mix between a homemade Oreo and a whoopee pie. I do not care to admit here how many of those cookies and biscuits I have eaten in the past year. These homestyle biscuits are made by hand using no machinery whatsoever and with the finest ingredients.  Callie’s biscuits have been touted by Saveur, Food and Wine Magazine, and even Oprah!
