As you make your way through Dorothy Lane Market this time of year, there’s an excitement and energy in the air as everyone prepares for their special gatherings. We are honored and thankful to be a part of these special times with the food that you feed your friends and family at your table. Although there are too many to count, here are 10 DLM feasting favorites to add to your holiday prep list.
This is the pie that’s baked in an all-butter crust and has a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth taste. It’s so good we have people tell us that they don’t even bother making their own pumpkin pie any more. The same can be said about our Grandma Tobias Pecan Pie.
Not a pie person? Try the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Roll. They go quickly, so grab one while you can! We start with a perfectly spiced, light cake rolled with sweet cream cheese frosting and drizzle it with caramel.
We are thankful for all of our local farming friends who make endeavors, like our Turkey Red Wheat Bread, possible. For a limited time, our Turkey Red Wheat Bread will feature the words “Give Thanks” on its beautiful crust. Turkey Red Wheat carries with it a rich history tied to the family of Dale Friesen, one of the three local farmers who grows this wheat for us. Once milled into flour, our skilled DLM artisan bakers create these delicious and artful masterpieces.
Still haven’t reserved a DLM Free-Range Turkey? Although we have limitations on some sizes of non-reserved turkeys, we will have plenty of DLM Free-Range Turkey to fill your table so flock to DLM if you still need your non-GMO bird! This turkey proudly wears all of the best buzz words: local, vegetarian grain fed, gluten free, fresh, free range, no antibiotics, and now Non-GMO Project Verified. Did we mention that it’s delicious, too?
Heavenly Ham® is a mainstay dish that can either be the centerpiece or serve a supporting roll to other entrées, like a DLM Free-Range Turkey. We blanket each ham in our signature glaze of rich honey and delicate spices melded together over an open flame to really satisfy your taste buds. This step also seals in the natural juices and enhances the flavor of the ham. If you’re doing the cooking this year, rest assured that this is fully cooked and prep is minimal. Simply heat and serve (or eat cold).
November brings the annual wine hype of Beaujolais Nouveau, and after many years here in the Wine Shop at DLM, we’re convinced that a holiday table setting isn’t complete unless a bottle of this wine is included. This crowd-pleaser is a soft and supple offering of plummy freshness that pairs so easily with turkey, all its trimmings, and cheese!
There’s no going back after you try our DLM Homestyle Turkey Gravy that’s Made Right Here and available in the Gourmet Take Away section. Aunt Dorothy keeps very busy this time of year making enough gravy to go around. How much? More than 3,000 cups! So ladle it on those mashed potatoes, dressing, and turkey. Your plate won’t be complete without it.
There’s so much to do to prep for the big feast, you gotta take an assist when you can get it. Enter the DLM Produce department, which will be featuring some of the stuffing essentials, pre-chopped! Think onions and celery already diced, saving you precious time and a few tears you might shed while chopping. Also included are fresh herbs customary for stuffing, such as thyme, rosemary, and sage. Hats off to our Produce pros for this one!
We know that the holiday season is upon us when the Hartzler Eggnog arrives, so let the festivities begin! Featuring a new collector’s bottle each year, Hartzler’s wonderful premium eggnog, sold by the quart, is great for pouring into a cup of coffee in lieu of artificial creamer or just to sip on and enjoy! Take it along to a family gathering or use as a hostess gift. Your friends and family will thank you!
We had heard rumors that there was a family in Rogue Valley, Oregon, who grew the best Comice pears—also known as The Holiday Pear—and the rumors certainly were true. Back again to DLM for the third year, we are delighted that this sweet, juicy pear has arrived a bit earlier than usual, getting here just in time for Thanksgiving!
*Please note that although we do our best to keep up with the demand of these favorites, some of them may become unavailable as we inch closer to Thanksgiving Day.
